Sex Workers globally are fighting for their right to equal citizenship and a life free of stigma and discrimination. Through our series A Tryst with we hope to help shed light on the issues facing Sex Workers from all backgrounds, and provide a platform for them to tell their stories. This week we chat to Washington Dominatrix Dallas Reign about the censorship of Sex Workers by tech companies, how the industry has changed and dealing with burnout. Tell us your story, how did you get into the industry and what has your journey looked like thus far I got into the industry as a college student. Eager to make money so my mom didn’t have to send me $20 a week that was covering nothing. In the days of Craigslist and other forums that proved effective and lucrative but also dangerous and risky. Luckily for me I was also involved in a peer mentor program that gave students information on STD and STI Awareness as well as domestic violence information and resources which gave me the tools to at least be safe. Through exploration with my best friend in college we became baby dommes and sugar babies. Class by day, fulfilling fantasies and cashing out by happy hour. I have been able to join networks of professionals that are kinky and communities I've been able to grow in with educators that became friends. I'm dedicated to providing care for my clients in the ways I do because it's consensual, it's empowering and it's needed. How has the industry changed since you started I feel there's been a huge inflation on the industry and people just eager to be able to provide for themselves since the pandemic but in the 9 years I’ve been involved I’ve seen a huge change in policy and the way corporations mainly credit card companies are changing their terms to protect themselves which leave SW’s in more dangerous positions. As the industry changes of course there will be some providers who are more interested in money than their craft but I pride myself on being a provider who focuses on education and SSC (safe sane consensual) play. What are some of your hobbies and interests outside of work I love Yoga and swimming, but I also love to read and travel. I keep my kindle loaded up with books so I’m never bored going to other city’s and connecting with people. I have a passion for hosting events and connecting people as well. I love to cook. Nothing better than a good meal and a comfy couch. Is there a book, tv show, or movie that has had a significant impact on your life_ What was it, and what did it teach you I’ve read several fantasy books and mangas and reading Princess Ai series by Courtney Love as silly as it sounds confirmed for me as a senior in HS at my job as a personal assistant that I always wanted to get paid to be a beautiful light in the world showing people they are enough just being themselves. Of course she was a singer and an alien but points were made. Also, Pussy Prayers by Black Girl Bliss because young women whether leaning toward the sex industry or not need to feel empowered and educated on the their bodies for more than just creating humans. As sex workers, we face many challenges. What are some issues you care about, and how do you think your clients can help sex workers and become better allies I feel like many Sex Workers need better financial assistance. Of course making money in any capacity is the biggest concern and being able to hold onto that and use it to take care of yourself. A lot of sex workers are not educated on how to protect themselves and their earnings. I always feel like clients that consistently book you can always make sure to comply with screening standards and timely payment. Lastly signing petitions that support sex worker safety. What do you think the public could learn from Sex Workers Every job whether you think it is lewd or unethical is important and serves a purpose in our society. Adults should be able to freely and privately pay for services instead of sneaking around and putting people in harmful situations. Sex work takes a lot of nerve, attention to detail, courage and charm. We know sex workers are experiencing censorship and discrimination both online and offline. What has your experience been with this and how has it affected your work I've had profiles deleted countless times and often it's unfair just because I'm shapely doesn't mean I'm posting something with sexual content. I have breasts and I can't put them in my backpack just to record a video. However I've learned to blur out some things and a few video editing skills have helped with more vanilla platforms. I've learned to make sure I connect my fans to my other platforms so if an account is deleted people can find me. When you're having a bad day, what do you do to make yourself feel better Usually, I order some ramen, edibles, grab a good wine from the store, take a really hot shower then after I cover myself in shea butter and my friends special oil blend and massage every inch of my body, I lay down and turn my phones off and enjoy my solitude with some of my favorite cartoons and movies. Or I take a nap. As sex workers, we're often asked some fairly inappropriate questions by the public. In your opinion, what should non sex workers avoid asking Italian escorts sex workers and why I have the 4 Big No's. No religion, no politics, no race play, no home stuff. Try not to get super personal. What are your top three pieces of advice for workers just starting out Find your niche and treat it like your superpower and have fun with it! You already have a job people hate and judge you for might as well enjoy yourself. Treat yourself with the utmost respect and make it clear to clients your safety and comfortability is not ever for sale. No MEANS NO. This is a fast paced industry that falls hard and forgets fast. Always have a few backup plans and investments in your cuffs. What would your dream date look like Take a boat to Catalina to go shopping , have a light lunch with wine tasting and live music on the beach and then we'd go to see a dinner theatre before having tantric massages with champagne and chocolate covered strawberries.
